Hey guys. I’m looking to relocate from Nashville to LA in about a year. I figured I’d take advantage of the large concentration of blind people that the zone obviously has and ask if anyone either lives there now, or has lived there in the past. If so, I’d like some advice as to how reliable the public transportation system is, whether or not there’s paratransit, how the city is designed, etc. I’m also looking to maybe finish my commercial music and voice performance degrees at UCLA. I’m wondering if anyone has any sage words about that? What’re there disability services like, etc. How possible is it to walk throughout the city?
i live in san Diego, about 100 miles south of LA, but lived in LA for about 3 months. The transportation up there is ok, especially if you can take advantage of the subway system. I definitely would not recommend the paratransit, called access, since they are very unreliable. They've been known to show up a couple hours late to pick up, and the actual ride might take just as long. The streets are pretty accessible, and so are the buses, which announce evry stop as the bus approaches it. It's also a great music city, good weather, ok people, etc. Hope this helps you.
My husband grew up in L.A., so I'll tell him to sign on and give his opinion. We are considering moving back, but we have a baby, and currently couldn't afford housing there. For us, it's either the ghetto or starve yourself living in a decent area. Yep, I'll definitely suggest he come and share his opinions for you.
